Services

Like any winning team, we don’t believe in publishing our “play book” or confidential consulting strategies on a website for the world and competitors to see.  However, there is a reason our consultants have been called upon by:

  • Approximately one quarter of Power 4 Athletics Departments to strengthen their teams and programs.
  • The United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the Center for SafeSport to help tackle ongoing challenges and risks associated with misconduct in sport.
  • National Champion and Super Bowl Champion coaches to provide guidance to best protect them, their athletes and programs.
  • Hundreds of organizations outside of athletics to help prevent, identify and address human relations risks.

Assessment

Independent Human Relations Risk Assessment™ - Our assessments involve verifying and providing risk management analysis for strengthening institutional, departmental and individual team policies, procedures and practices that apply to students and employees in the athletics department.  Besides reviewing written policies, our consultants interview those professionals in university or institution-wide offices as well as in the athletics department who are charged with handling human relations risks and/or are identified as resources for assisting with problems. Assessment interviews are also conducted with many of the athletics department senior staff as well as a random selection of students and employees to help determine culture within the organization.  Along with learning about the university processes and resources for human relations risks, information from assessment interviews allows PFA Consulting to develop an action plan that customizes its training for each client.

Training

Independent Training Forum™- A primary focus of PFA Consulting’s training is to prevent and properly respond to any misconduct by verifying the reporting avenues and resources available and by creating an independent forum to discuss factors used to determine if behavior crosses the line.  Unlike many firms that provide training, our position is that in light of the high-profile nature of intercollegiate athletics, in-person training by a third-party in smaller groups demonstrates the athletics department or organization is committed to protection for all.  In this regard, we typically conduct separate supervisory and non-supervisory training sessions for employees and train each gender’s sports team in separate training sessions, without the presence of coaches or administrators.  Because of our independence, PFA Consulting provides a safe forum for students and staff to ask questions and raise concerns without fear of retaliation. This also protects the institution from a subsequent charge that there was no legitimate opportunity to express a concern or report a problem because of the presence of those who could be perceived as conflicted.
